David A. Celko, M.D.
Medical Director

Dr. David A. Celko serves as Medical Director at Lungs at Work and has been part of the organization since its earliest days. As a pulmonologist, he brings decades of experience in diagnosing and treating complex respiratory disease. He is also an approved Office of Workers’ Compensation Programs (OWCP) provider for the Federal Black Lung Program.

Dr. Celko conducts comprehensive medical interviews and examinations for miners pursuing black lung benefits. His evaluations are thorough, clinically sound, and grounded in a deep understanding of occupational lung disease. He works closely with the clinical and legal teams to ensure medical findings are clearly documented and supported throughout the claims process.

With family roots in coal mining, Dr. Celko’s connection to this work is both professional and personal. He recognizes the difficulty and danger of coal mining and approaches each miner and family with respect, appreciation, and compassion. Taking time to listen and engage with miners during their examinations is one of the most meaningful parts of his work.

A lifelong learner, Dr. Celko has remained active in continuing medical education and professional organizations throughout his career. Outside of medicine, he has a strong interest in history, particularly World War II.
